The Library provides a range of resources and services to support students who are studying designated distance learning courses. Distance learning students are defined as those not normally taught on campus. However, some part-time students may also eligible for these services (this must be agreed between the library and your tutor).
As a distance learner you will be automatically registered to benefit from our distance learner support. You are always welcome to use the same campus based services as any other student. It has been recognised, that for most distance learning students this is not an option.

Borrowing
You can request up to six items at a time to be sent to you by post. Requests can be made by sending a completed request form by email or post. The duration of loans has been increased to allow for postage time:
- Standard loan - 4 weeks
- Week loan - 14 days
- Journal articles can be requested. These are photocopied and sent to you at the cost of £1.00 per request. The article then becomes your property
- Short loans and reference items cannot be borrowed
The items will be issued to your borrower ticket and then become your responsibility. The postal service offered should take no more than 48 hours (post pending). This should be taken into account when planning assignments. You will be notified of any requests that cannot be fulfilled immediately. Please contact the Library if you have not received items within 3 days.
Returning items
Items may be returned in person or by Recorded delivery post. Please note that normal fines apply for the late return of borrowed items.
Renewing items
You can renew the items out on loan to you an unlimited number of times. You will not be able to renew items if:
- Another borrower has requested an item out on loan to you
- You have outstanding fines or charges on your borrower record
Inter-library loans
You may request Inter-Library Loans in accordance with normal allowances. Requests will be accepted by post as well as in person. For details of this service please click here.
