Southhamton almost got an equalizer but Sorenson was forced into a save then Delaney had to clear from of the line. It wasn’t long after that miss when Villa went two up and it was the debutant Cole. Cole finished well after being expertly put through on goal by Vassell. The second half was not as exciting with both teams not performing or making any chances but the game was already won for the Villa. by Mellberg. Charlton 3-0 Aston Villa Summary Villa controlled the first 15 and came close when the Vassell hit the crossbar. But it was Charlton that took the lead when Villa defense were caught napping which allowed Francis Jeffers to head home to put the addicts one nil ahead. Five minutes later Villa found themselves two behind the Mellberg made a mistake and let Jeffers in for the second. In the second half Villa made chances but any chances of Villa salvaging the game was destroyed when the young scored his first goal children. A bad night at the office, for the Villa.
Summary Aston Villa started again well with Mellberg heading home in four minutes. But the cassock and fighting back in the 28th minute with Patrick lower goal and then went ahead on 37 minutes within Andy O'Brien header. But Villa came out fighting in the second half and equalizing goal when Cole chested the ball over the line from close range. Then one of the main incidents of the game happened when Thomas Sorensen handled outside the box to stop Bellamy continuing his run with the ball the referee gave a freekick but did not send Sorensen off the stern game sure. Shortly after Barry headed home in the 71st minute and then Angel came off the bench and scored in the 82nd minute to wrap up a red letter day for villains. Aston Villa 0-0 Chelsea Summary Chelsea were playing some beautiful football but Villa kept the score level by stopping Chelsea from scoring. At the back Mellberg and Delaney was strong and the midfield to give the Chelsea stars time and room to play. Villa did have a few chances but the game was controlled by Chelsea. The main talking point of the game was when Drogba was brought down in the penalty area by De la Cruz who protested his innocence and the referee did they give a penalty even though action replays suggests contact was made. Chelsea were denied victory while Villa faught for a point.
Summary Norwich worked hard and on the balance of play Villa should have returned with all three points but Norwich fought valiantly. Could have warned in the final minutes when Robert Green pushed away Stephen Davies's drive. Cole went close on a couple of occasions and Thomas Hitzlsperger also went close. Norwich also had chances but Sorenson was not to be beaten. It ended all square. Aston Villa 1-1 Crystal Palace Summary Even though on paper this should have been a Villa win it turned out much different. Crystal Palace showed lots of determination gut and heart. Villa did not find their rhythm and Crystal Palace went close when they had a shot cleared off the line. They soon went in front with a goal from ex blue’s striker Andy Johnson who latched onto a mistake and hit a hard and low shot into the bottom corner. This goal brought the home team alive and Hendrie almost scored on the 23rd minute but it was not to be denied and scored in the 36 minute with a 20 yd. shot into the top corner. Both teams had chances to win the game but a draw was a fair result. Blackburn Rovers 2-2 Aston Villa Summary Villa started well and on 25 minutes and Angel broke into the box and latched onto a pass from De la Cruz to put Villa ahead. But the home side equalized through Barry Ferguson who latched onto a Paul Dikov cross. Villa almost took the lead through lee Hendrie and hit the post. Villa scored a goal through Angel but it was disallowed. Then Emerson put the home side ahead. Villa made more chances but did not equalize until Mellberg scored in the 80 minutes to earn Villa a draw.
Summary Aston Villa scored an early goal and contained Arsenal throughout the entire first half. But Arsenal, the champions came through in the second half due to their superiour quality and strength in depth. Arsenal would have scored lots more goals but Stefan Postma played out of his skin and saved the villa from a inbarrassing defeat. Aston Villa 2-0 Fulham Summary Two excellent goals secured all the points for Aston Villa. Solano scored an excellent 29 minutes from a freekick. Fulham only came close from set pieces. The game was not up by Hendrie on 75 minutes when he scored from the edge of the area to score his third goal in 4 games. Fulham did get more dangerous in the last few minutes the game was already won.
Everton 1-1 Aston Villa Summary This was a day when Villa earned a valuable point against an Everton side which was lying third in the table. Villa took the lead through a spectacular goal from lee Hendrie with a 20 yd. strike. The lead only lasted seven minutes when Marcus Bent scored on 33 minutes. Everton looked the more likely to win the game but Villa worked very hard and deserved point.
Summary Villa played out of there skin in the first half and pompey didn’t
have a chance.
Summary Diouf opened the goal scoring after 21 minutes when he converted Davies cross into the bottom corner. Villa managed to pull the game back to all square just before the half time whistle when Lee Hendrie delivered a cross which Gavin McCann headed home. Bolton Controlled most of the game but in the dying stages of the game substitute Thomas Hitzlsperger Volleyed an excellent shot into the back of the net to win Villa the game.
