Islamic
Festivals |
There are two main Muslim festivals :
- Eid ul-Fitr - This is the celebration at the end of Ramadan. It represents
the ending of the fast, Muslims see it as a period of joy and celebration.
Special prayers are held at the mosque and special meals are served. Eid ul-Fitr
lasts for three days, within these three days families are visited and presents
given. It is a custom to make offerings to the poor on this day.

- Eid ul-Adha - This is the fetival of sacrifice. It is the other big festival
of the year. It marks the end of the pilgrimage to Mecca. Again, it lasts
for three days and is celebrated very much n the same as Eid ul-Fitr. It
is a time for rejoicing throughout the Islamic world, a time for charitable
donations to be made and the exchange of gifts to take place between family
and friends.
