St Andrews Old Stadium

History Of St Andrew's Stadium

St Andrews was home to Birmingham City Football Club in 1906, the first game played at the stadium was against Middlesbrough. During the Second World War the Railway End and Main stand of the stadium were lost. St Andrews were directly hit 20 times which lead the club to play their home fixtures at Villa Park.

In the mid 1990’s three quarters of the ground were rebuilt to modernise the stadium and repair the damage caused thought the war.

The ground not only has it been a home ground for Birmingham City, but has also been a host for England U21 matches.

The stadium is looking to make a £12million re-development for the present main stand, which will increase the capacity of St Andrews to 36,500. They propose to include a retractable roof and make facilities that will enable the stadium to stage other sporting events such as athletics
