Birmingham City FC History
Birmingham Cit FC was formed in 1875 under the name
of Small Heath Alliance by a group of cricketers from Holy church
in Bordesley green. The Club used several home grounds for their
games, it wasn’t until 1905 that the club moved to St Andrews
Stadium. The club name also changed this year to Birmingham FC.
The first match played at the new Stadium was against Middlesbrough
with an attendance of 32,000.
Before the 1930’s blues were unable to achieve any cup finals
or trophies. In 1931 the club managed to play their first FA cup
final at Wembley against West Brom, unfortunately they were unable
to win and lost 2-1.
Club success was not found until 1946 when they won
the football league championship and appeared in the FA Cup semi
final.
The season of 1954-55 Blues managed to gain promotion
from the second division to the first. The following year they achieved
6th place in the league, which is their highest recorded position
and again reached the FA Cup final against Manchester city losing
3-1.

and then relegated to the division two, however in 1989 Birmingham
City were again relegated but this time into the third division
for the first time ever.
Blues found little success in the leagues, although in 1995
they won a trophy at Wembley in the Auto Windscreen Shield competition.
In 2001 blues found themselves in the Worthington Cup final at
the Millennium stadium where they were beaten by Liverpool. The
following season blues made great success where they were promoted
into the Premiership for the first time in 16years under the
management of Steve Bruce, a former player.
Birmingham City FC continues to perform in the premiership and
are working at staying in the top league to avoid relegation.
