Article 26 takes its name from the Declaration of Human Rights, which states that everyone has the right to education and specifies that higher education should be accessible on the basis of merit.
Newman University Running Team teamed up with Winchester University staff and students to represent the Cathedrals Group (CG) on Saturday 28th March 2015, as part of the Mash March Madness 10k Forest Trail Race in Cannock Chase. Despite the wet and muddy conditions spirits were high and runners didn't let the weather dampen their spirits in crossing the finish line and winning 'The Best team' trophy.
The team of CG runners raised money for Article 26 - a charity set up to promote access to higher education for people who have fled persecution or sought asylum on the UK. We raised just under £2,000 and will continue to show our support for students who have sought asylum enabling them to access Higher Education. This usually entails a full-fee waiver and small bursary to help with books and travel.
A combined gift total of £9,000 would support a student for one year with an Access 26: Access to Education Bursary.
£500 would support a small bursary to help with books and travel.
