Preparing for University Conference: Thursday 16th February 2017

The aim of this conference is to help prepare Yr 12 students for the process of applying to university and give them insight into what being a student at Newman University could be like. Students will attend a variety of short interactive workshops whilst also getting the chance to see Newman's facilities and speak to some current students.

Please note that booking is essential and places are limited to 20 per institution. All places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

Preparing for University Conference Programme 2017

11.00   Welcome to Newman

 11.15-11.45    An Introduction to Higher Education

This session will encourage students to start thinking about which subject they may wish to study at university and the entry requirements for HE courses. It will also explore the UCAS application process in preparation for September.

11.45-12.15    Split Sessions

The groups will then split either of the following sessions;

Campus tour - Student ambassadors will lead on a quick look around of our campus and facilities (please note: this tour is limited due to building work)

Student Finance - An introduction to the infamous student finance. Students will have a better idea of how the cost of university is covered, what they might be entitled to and tips on how to budget themselves during their time as a student.

Student Life - Delivered by current Newman students. This session aims to give you a real insight into what life at University could be like and the opportunities that present themselves.

12.15-12.45     Split Sessions (as above)

12.45-1.30     Lunch (Students are able to bring their own lunch or can purchase refreshments from our sanctuary food outlet)
