Entry Requirements

Academic Entry Requirements
Before you submit your application to study at Newman University, please consider whether you meet the necessary entry requirements for your chosen course. You can do this by checking entry requirements in the course specific sections of this website.

English Language Requirements
It is important that you have sufficient command of written and spoken English otherwise you will not be able to reach your full potential whilst studying with us. If your first language is not English you will need to satisfy the University's English language requirements.

Depending on your programme of study suitable evidence can include but is not limited to:

  • GCSE/O-Level English Language at grade C or above
  • An overall score of at least 6.0 in the British Council IELTS test
  • An A level or degree equivalent qualification in English for English related subject courses (depending on the level of study)

Some of our degree programmes will require a higher level of English e.g. IELTS 6.5 and further information on this can be found on the relevant course pages.

For all teaching courses, international students will have to demonstrate that they communicate very clearly in written and spoken English as part of the interview process.

If you are a student applying for a Tier 4 visa then you will need to meet the minimum English Language requirements set by the UKVI which is IELTS.  For undergraduate programmes we will require 6.0 and for postgraduate 6.5.
