Birmingham Newman University is seeking to recruit a Careers and Opportunities Adviser, to play an integral part in the services on offer to students and graduates as part of the Careers Service.

This is an exciting and diverse role, where you will be expected to provide high quality advice and guidance around employment and work experience through professional one-to-one guidance sessions, workshops and presentations. A central part of the role will be taking ownership of and negotiating and managing relationships with employers that result in opportunities for Birmingham Newman University students and graduates. You will be the first point of contact with employers, networks and other key partners, handling difficult conversations and negotiating the best outcomes for students, graduates and academics. You will manage and promote opportunities through our careers portal and will lead and organise a calendar of events, based on informed information and data, to support the progression and outcomes of our students and graduates, bringing employers and students together and integrating activities into the curriculum across both faculties. You will actively promote cross-team collaboration on employer initiatives with relevant academic departments and promote employability skills and professional development opportunities to students throughout their studies.

The successful candidate will have a degree or equivalent level 6 qualification, alongside a relevant professional Careers Guidance qualification (must be level 6 or above). As well as having recent experience in a careers setting, providing high quality guidance around careers and job opportunities, the candidate must have experience of liaising with employers and organisations and delivering employer related events. With knowledge of current recruitment practices, we are looking for an individual with excellent interpersonal skills to develop strong relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders. Excellent leadership and negotiation skills to manage successful relationships and influence employers and academics is paramount. The individual must have excellent organisation and planning skills, the ability to problem solve and make decisions independently, have excellent verbal and written communication skills and have excellent research skills. The Careers Service are a dedicated and collaborative team and we are looking for an individual to be a team player to achieve service outcomes.
