Renewals

All loanable items except laptops can be renewed up to 50 times unless they are reserved by another borrower.

Keep track of the details and "due dates" of items on loan to you using the "My Account" option on the library catalogue.

You can renew your items (unless they are reserved by another borrower):

  • using the library catalogue My Account option
  • using the self-service kiosks
  • by telephone (0121) 476 1181 ext. 1208
  • at the Library Service Desk by the library entrance

Fines and overdue items

To help everyone get fair access to our books, we charge fines for overdue items at the following rates:

  • Standard loans - 20p per day (up to £10.00 per item)
  • Week loans - 50p per day (up to £10.00 per item)
  • Laptops - 50p per hour (up to £50.00 per item)

If your total fines for all items reach £10.00 you will be temporarily blocked from borrowing and renewing library items, until you reduce the amount of fines.

We send out overdue reminders by e-mail to your Newman e-mail address. After four e-mails, if items are still overdue, we will send you a letter. If you have items overdue for more than 21 days, you will be temporarily blocked from borrowing and renewing library items, until you return them. If you have a laptop which is overdue for more than 7 days, you will be temporarily blocked from borrowing and renewing any library items, until it is returned.

We send a courtesy e-mail to your Newman e-mail address, two days before the item is due (except laptop loans). If you do not receive this e-mail, responsibility for returning items on time is still yours, and you will still be liable for any fines.

Reservations

If an item you want to borrow is out on loan, you can reserve it using the library catalogue.

  • Up to 5 reservations at one time
  • Cancel a reservation online using the library catalogue or contact the Library
  • We will e-mail you using your Newman e-mail address when your reservation is available
  • If there are a number of reservations for an item, it will be loaned to you for a week
