Copyright Policy on course packs

Course packs containing photocopied items from published books and journals can be produced for distribution to students under the following terms and conditions:

To adhere to copyright law, no more than 5% or one article or chapter per book or journal issue can be copied for inclusion in a course pack.

The Library or Subject area must own a copy of the material to be copied for inclusion, or obtain a copyright-free copy via the Library.

Course packs can only be used to provide a resource where none already exists and should not become the norm for modules, as this could result in the students being spoon-fed information thus reducing their need to become information literate. It is because of this need for students to develop information skills that we do not advocate course packs for existing, established courses.

Only sufficient copies of a course pack to supply the students taking the relevant module and their tutor, can be produced under copyright conditions.
