inter-library loans

If you cannot find the items you require at Newman library, you can request books and journal articles through our inter-library loans service, if you are a registered student or member of staff.

To use this service please complete a request form, providing details of the item you want. If insufficient details are provided, the library may not be able to process the request and the form will be returned to you. A signature is needed from you prior to processing, so unfortunately forms cannot be submitted electronically. Payment must be made before the request can be processed.

Allocations are as follows:

  • 1st/2nd years - up to 5 requests per year at £1.00 each, further requests £5.00 each
  • 3rd/4th years and postgraduates - up to 10 requests per year at £1.00 each, further requests £5.00 each
  • Staff - up to 10 requests per year at £1.00 each, further requests £5.00 each (Subject areas may transfer funds to pay for inter-library loans)

Newman uses the British Library to supply inter-library loans. The requests can take time to arrive, so it's always worth checking locally to see whether other libraries have the information you want.

There is another service available to you directly from the British Library, called British Library Direct. If you need to obtain a document very quickly, for example, within 2 hours, you can request it direct using this service. It is a much more expensive option than the subsidised Inter-library loan service, however you may choose to use it in a document emergency!

Inter-library loans of theses from other institutions are no longer available as the British Library has replaced them with the EThOS - Electronic Theses Online Service. For further details of the service see the EThOS help page.
