01/10/2011: New Library Opens for Business
Newman's impressive new library opened for business on 30th September.  Students now have access to books, journals and electronic resources in a wonderful new building which encompasses additional teaching rooms, individual and group study areas as well as Newman's specialist collections. Relaxing sofas incorporating power sockets allow students to plug in their laptops or ipads and study in a comfortable environment whilst enjoying superb views over Bartley Green reservoir and the Worcestershire countryside beyond.

Newman University today announced fees of £4,500 and £8,400 per year for its undergraduate single and combined honours degrees starting in 2012. Four year part-time degrees will cost £4,500 per year, and full-time 3 year degrees £8,400 per year.

A key indicator of any higher education institution is the employment rate of its graduates, and Newman University can once again boast a great success rate for 2010 leavers. Six months after graduating, over 94% of Newman students available for work are either in employment or have gone on to further study, according to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA).

Three Newman University PE and Sports Studies students had their research accepted for presentation at the 2011 British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) Annual Student Conference at the University of Chester on April 12 and 13. They joined more than 400 delegates from across the UK attending the conference – entitled ‘Integrations and Innovations: An Interdisciplinary Approach to Sport and Exercise Science’.

08/02/2011: Birmingham Entrepreneur Wins Award for SWEET Success
Birmingham social entrepreneur, Jayne Hulbert, is one of just 20 of the UK’s most exciting and up and coming social entrepreneurs to receive a Level 2 award from UnLtd, the UK’s foundation for social entrepreneurs. Jayne will receive £15,000 to expand her business, the support of a dedicated business support manager and access to a network of professional advisors. Level 2 awards are awarded to individuals with innovative projects that demonstrate scalability and long term growth potential and offer inspirational solutions to some of the biggest challenges facing communities.

Monday 24th January saw the launch of the National Student Survey (NSS) 2011 at Newman University. The annual survey, which was first carried out in 2005, gives final-year undergraduates an opportunity to give their opinions on what they liked about their time at Newman as well as things that they felt could have been improved.
