Kerry joined the English & Creative Writing Subject Area at Newman in September 2011 as a Lecturer in English and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2015. Before joining Newman, she worked as an Associate Lecturer at University of Portsmouth (2009-2011) and a Temporary Lecturer in English at University of Southampton (2006-2011). She completed the AHRC CWWSkills Workshop Series for early-career academics in 2014.
In 2012, Kerry and Dr Julia Banister (Leeds Beckett University) organised a one-day conference entitled ‘Writing Mothers\Daughters’ which was held at Newman. Kerry has been the recipient of two recent HEA awards: the 'challenges of web residency' project and a student-as-partners project on assignment feedback.
Kerry is currently publishing on Doris Lessing and anti-psychiatry; sex and censorship in post-war women’s writing; and post-war literature and food. Her PhD examined the relationship between R. D. Laing’s anti-psychiatry movement and Lessing’s post-war ‘madness novels’. An essay adapted from the thesis won the 2012 Doris Lessing Society Graduate Prize and was published in Doris Lessing Studies.
Kerry welcomes enquiries from MRes and PhD students working in the following areas: Doris Lessing; post-war and/or contemporary women’s writing; feminist and/or queer theory; women’s writing and mental illness; the body in contemporary literature and popular culture; mother/daughter relationships in literature and popular culture; contemporary reading practices.
Kerry has taught undergraduate modules in the novel, poetry, drama, critical theory, contemporary literature, gender and queer theory, and postcolonial literature, as well as modules on study skills and employability. She has also taught on a postgraduate module on representations of the body in 20th century literature and supervised postgraduate research.

Kerry is Programme Leader for English Literature.

Kerry is an executive committee member of the Contemporary Women's Writing Association, a member of the Doris Lessing Society and a member of the MaMSIE network. She is also a member of the Newman Humanities Research Centre.
