Andrea Bolshaw joined Newman University on 18th January 2016 as Secretary & Registrar and Clerk to the University Council.  In this role, as well as ensuring the strategic management of the University as a member of the Executive Team, Andrea provides leadership in key functional areas of the University: compliance; planning and registry services underpinning the student academic journey (from admission to graduation); governance; and as Company Secretary. 

Prior to joining Newman, Andrea was The Academic Registrar at Coventry University where she and her team were ‘Highly Commended’ in the category of Outstanding Administrative Services Team at the Times Higher Education Leadership & Management Awards (THELMAs) 2015.  She has 20 years’ experience in higher education, which span 5 UK universities.

Andrea has a BSc in Physical Geography, and an MBA (with Distinction) from the University of Leicester. She is an accredited Chartered Manager (CMgr) with the Chartered Management Institute and a Fellow of the Association of University Administrators (FAUA).

Andrea is passionate about leadership and management practices that make a difference and has experience of organisational change management leading to strategic change and improved processes.  She has been a Mentor for the PG Certificate in HE Leadership and Management since 2008 and is now an examiner on the same programme.  She is also an Associate Tutor at the University of Leicester Management School. Andrea has been an active member of the AUA since the beginning of her career (recognised by her Fellowship) including presenting a conference workshop at the 2010 AUA Conference titled ‘Restructuring in HE; a practical guide’.  

In 2013 Andrea was appointed to the Office of the Independent Adjudicator (OIA) as member of the Higher Education Advisory Panel (HEAP) in recognition of her wealth of experience in making decisions in respect of student complaints and appeals.  Due to her significant professional standing in the HE sector, she also acts as an Associate Consultant for the Southern Universities Management Services (SUMS) undertaking discrete projects across the sector.
