After working in banking for 13 years Allison changed careers and trained to become a primary school teacher specialising in early childhood. She worked in several schools in Birmingham and the West Midlands region before taking up a post funded by the European Social Fund into the early childhood workforce in 2005.
Allison’s PhD research considers the views of birth children of foster carers and their perspectives on being brought up in a fostering family. Her other research interests include, the development of early literacy skills, children’s physical activity levels in the foundation stage and the children’s workforce.
Allison is currently module leader and teaches on a range of modules including research and research methods, the early year’s curriculum and factors that affect children’s learning as well as contributing to modules which consider children without parents and looked after children.
Current Administrative Duties
Programme Co-ordinator, Foundation Degree for Teaching and Learning Support Assistants. Allison also sits on the Minor Amendments Panel, Mitigating circumstances board, Regulations Review Group, Foundation Degree Group, Work Related Practice Group.
