Conference: Imagining the Afterlife in the Ancient World
During 21-23 June 2016 Newman will be hosting a conference on 'Imagining the Afterlife in the Ancient World'. This is an inter-disciplinary conference incorporating papers on Classics, Ancient History, Archaeology, ancient religion, philosophy, theology, and classical reception in modern literature.
The conference aims to explore the ways in which people in the ancient world, and those responding to them in the modern world, imagined what might happen to them after death, and the ways in which they dealt with these imagined afterlives through funerary architecture, consolatory literature, imaginative literature and religious rituals. We plan to publish the proceedings.
