Entry Requirements
For entry to the BSc (Hons) IT with Management Studies award you will need to have completed a relevant level 5 programme similar to the IT and Technical Support Foundation Degree. You will need to have achieved 120 credits at level 4 and 120 credits at level 5. This is the normal outcome of a UK Foundation Degree.

Applicants from institutions other than Newman will be asked to submit a piece of work known as a ‘Bridging Protocol Portfolio’ that will be used to assess your ability to deal with the investigative research elements needed to study at this level.

Assessment
Module assessment will be via projects based on your workplace. You will be expected to research and explore theory that will provide a useful basis for you to analyse and evaluate work-based problems and to propose and justify appropriate research methods.

Attendance
This course has a blended learning approach suitable to part-time students. There will be a significant amount of the programme available through on-line systems. The attendance for taught sessions will complement and support this networked learning, sessions are normally Thursday evening from 6pm-9pm.

Project Management for Organisation and Information
This module explores those aspects of the working environment in which organisations operate that relate to project development, bidding and management. The emphasis is on planning and controlling a project throughout its life expectancy, enabling students to apply tools and techniques to effectively compose a project plan to meet required outcomes.

Strategic Management and Information Systems
Vertical relationships between organisational strategy, information strategy and IT strategy are explored and critical management and leadership roles are identified. Legislation pertaining to organisational information is explored and ethical issues considered in organisational contexts. The ability to manage these complex strategic issues is tested in a final case study.

Business and Government e-Transactions
This module focuses primarily on the technical and operational aspects of e-transactions in business and Government. The first part explores the benefits, pitfalls and strategies associated with implementations of web
technologies. It will investigate the legal frameworks that govern the development and delivery of systems utilising these technologies, as well as identifying the technical skills required to manage them. The second part of the module will enable you to contextualise your learning in this area and deliver and evaluate a website suitable for use within your organisation.

Dissertation
You will identify an area of investigation within either the IT or the Management subject area, investigate the academic literature surrounding it, putting together an appropriate approach to finding data necessary to clarify the investigation, analyse the results and draw conclusions based on your investigations. You will be responsible for the overall project and be supervised on a one-to-one basis by an appropriately qualified tutor.
