The Times Newspaper reports Newman’s success in widening participation
The Times newspaper recently released an article looking at social inclusion of students at university, and how different universities recruit differing percentages of students from the most deprived areas in England and Wales, as well as those who are the first in their family to go to university.
The article states that ‘while the percentage of children going to university who had free school meals at 15 has increased from 9.2% to 17.3% since 2006, they are not spread evenly across our campuses.’
However, the article reports that Newman University recruits 74.8% of undergraduates who are the first in their family to go to university, compared with 13.8% at other well-known universities.
