A trail in progress
Our Nature Trail is part of an ongoing programme of biodiversity and sustainability improvements across campus. As new features are developed and existing areas are enhanced, we’ll update the interactive 360° tour so you can follow the trail’s journey and see what’s changed.
Pond Area
Our redeveloped pond area provides an important habitat for wildlife and a peaceful space for reflection. Surrounded by planting and natural features, it forms a key stop on the Nature Trail and supports biodiversity across campus.

Forest School
The Forest School is an outdoor learning space designed to support teaching, learning and wellbeing. It offers students and staff a unique environment to engage with nature, develop practical skills and enjoy the benefits of outdoor learning.
Bug Hotels
Look out for our bug hotels, which provide shelter for insects and pollinators. These small but important habitats help support biodiversity and play a vital role in maintaining healthy ecosystems across the campus.
Orchard and Growing Spaces
Fruit trees and growing areas are helping to create greener spaces while supporting local wildlife. These areas contribute to our sustainability ambitions and provide opportunities for staff and students to engage with nature.
Greenhouse
Our greenhouse supports growing projects and sustainability initiatives across the University. It forms part of our wider commitment to environmental awareness and creating hands-on opportunities to learn about sustainable food production.
Why Nature Matters
Spending time in green spaces can improve wellbeing, reduce stress and help people feel more connected to their environment.
At Birmingham Newman, we believe that our outdoor spaces are just as important as our classrooms. The Nature Trail supports our commitment to sustainability, biodiversity and creating an inclusive campus where everyone can enjoy the benefits of nature.
Supporting Biodiversity

The University is actively working to enhance biodiversity across campus through habitat creation, tree planting, wildlife-friendly landscaping and environmental projects.
We continue to invest in our green spaces to create thriving habitats for plants, insects, birds and other wildlife.
As you explore the Nature Trail, you’ll see examples of how these initiatives are helping to create a richer and more sustainable campus environment.
