Dr Ibrahim Akubat

Dr Ibrahim is The Director of the HPL here at Newman. He has 10 years experience in working with athletes at all levels. He has worked with athletes in a range of team sports up to international level. He is also an active researcher in the area of sports performance and has published many original research articles and contributed to books on physical preparation and monitoring of players. He combines his roles here at Newman with BASES as the CPD lead for the sport and performance division.

Matt Ellis MSc CSCS

Matt is the assistant in sport & exercise sciences here at Newman University whilst also pursuing a PhD in sports science. Previous to Newman University he was Head of Academy Sport Science and Medicine at Coventry City Football Club for 6 years and was responsible for the player’s physical development. He has experience working with athletes from amateur all the way to international level in a variety of sports. Combining both applied work and research he has published articles in strength and conditioning and nutrition with elite footballers. His qualifications include a BSc in Sport & Exercise Science and a MSc Sports Nutrition. Further to his academic qualifications he is an accredited strength and conditioning coach (CSCS) and has also completed the International Olympic Committee’s postgraduate diploma in Sports Nutrition.

Russ Peters MSc

Russ has been a senior lecturer at Newman University since 2014 and contributed to research and consultancy within a variety of sports. He has worked with elite athletes such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Olympic squads and also conducted consultancy on behalf of companies such as Hi-Tec, Adidas and the MoD. Russ specialises in biomechanics at the HPL where he analyses athletes/ teams to improve health, performance and reduce injury potential. Using a full needs analysis, sport biomechanics concepts and industry leading technology we can help you achieve your goals.
