Assistant Dean, Dr Fiona Reid’s article in BBC History Magazine

Dr Fiona Reid, Assistant Dean, Arts and Humanities at Newman University, Birmingham has seen her article titled ‘Haunted by dreams of the trenches’ feature in BBC’s History Magazine.

The magazine was the Armistice Centenary Issue looking back at World War I ahead of the 100 years since the end of the war in 1918.

Dr Reid often researches into social and cultural responses to modern war, with a particular interest in Britain and France, publishing Medicine in First World War Europe: Soldiers, Medics, Pacifists in 2017. Dr Reid’s article in the BBC’s magazine talks about the after effects the war had on those in Britain and beyond, including injuries, refugee crises, pandemics and being diagnosed with shell shock.

Dr Reid reflects on the long term impact of the First World War on the men who were wounded in it, and their families. The article can be seen in BBC History’s Armistice Centenary issue.
