Dr Andrew Toon becomes member of Strategic Board for Maths Hub

Newman University Senior Lecturer and Course Leader in Mathematics, Dr Andrew Toon, has recently accepted an invitation to join the Strategic Board for the Central Maths Hub from Hub Lead, Sachin Jethwa.

The Central Maths Hub, coordinated by the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM), and part of the National Maths Hubs network, works in partnership with local schools, colleges, Universities, CPD providers, maths experts and employers to drive improvement in maths education.  The work is facilitated through funded professional development opportunities, national projects, Work Groups and collaborative projects.

Dr Toon has been involved with the hub for a number of years and has given taster sessions to students interested in pursuing a mathematics degree. The sessions exposed students to university level mathematics teaching, giving prospective students the chance to experience teaching and teaching approaches in higher education.

As part of the board, Dr Toon will assist with overseeing and governing the work of the Hub and help to provide strategic insight and guidance where necessary to improve the Hub’s outcomes.
