Dr Emma Powell Named Finalist in Birmingham Awards 2025 – Contribution to Education

Dr. Emma Powell SFHEA, Senior Lecturer in Primary ITE at Birmingham Newman University, has been shortlisted as a finalist in the ‘Contribution to Education’ category at the Birmingham Awards 2025.

This prestigious award recognises an individual that has made significant contributions to the excellence of educational provision, maintained a record of scholarly excellence in teaching, or demonstrated outstanding development and outreach.

Dr Powells research at Birmingham Newman University has had a significant impact across the West Midlands, where her work has supported schools to enhance the quality of PE provision for primary pupils. Through her work, teachers have access to continuous, research-informed CPD opportunities, helping them to deliver high-quality PE lessons that inspire and benefit children across the region.

Dr Powell’s dedication to education across Birmingham and the West Midlands, has earned her this well-deserved recognition.

Speaking on the shortlisting, DR Emma Powell said: “I’m honoured to share that I’ve been selected as a Finalist for the Birmingham Awards 2025 in the category of Contribution to Education. This recognition means so much, as it reflects years of passion, dedication, and the privilege of working with students, young people, children and colleagues across Birmingham.”

The Birmingham Awards celebrate the talent, dedication, and heroes that make Birmingham a remarkable place to live, work, and thrive. The winners will be announced on 17th October 2025.
