27/09/2018 by Hannah Jackson

Newman University’s Dr Fiona Reid is speaking today at the Men, Medicine, War conference at the Huis van De Nijmeegse Geschiedenis in the Netherlands. The conference is focused on the growth of the military-medical services during the First World War and how in spite of this, men still used self-medication to survive the conflict. Self-medication included alcohol, tobacco, drugs and charms. The event will examine the impact of these coping mechanisms and the questions the use of these raise.
