Dr Ibrahim Akubat, Senior Lecturer in Sport & Exercise Science and PG Research co-ordinator for research training has been awarded fellowship of the British Association of Sport & Exercise Sciences (BASES). The fellowship, one of only 8 awarded this year, recognises esteemed professional achievement, skills, knowledge and service to BASES and the sport and exercise science community. Dr Akubat will be officially recognised at the annual conference in November.

Dr Akubat commented: “It’s nice to be recognised by your peers, it can be difficult sometimes at a smaller institution but I must thank my PHD students and collaborators who have trusted me to guide or inform their work and produce the research that has impacted practice and the way people do research now.”

Dr Akubat was last year appointed to the Board of British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES), as Chair of the Sport and Performance Division and as a member of the board, and added:

“BASES is an organisation that is going from strength to strength and I have been fortunate enough to serve on committees and now as board member. We’re working hard on things that matter to our students like employment and internships but also to wider society like equality and diversity and also climate change. It’s great to be a part of that and be recognised for it.”
