Graduates celebrate at Newman University

graduate gowningYesterday saw Newman University’s Class of 2018 attend their graduation ceremony at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall.

Graduands from both the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Arts, Society and Professional Studies arrived with friends and family to celebrate their achievements. The soon to be graduates excitedly donned their gowns and mortar boards, taking memorable photos with their classmates before making their way into the ceremony.

The ceremonies were led by the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Scott Davidson who congratulated everyone who was graduating. The ceremonies also saw Newman University awards its Honorary Degrees to Dr Noreen M Carrocci, President of Newman University, Wichita in America and to British Actress and Writer, Rachel Joy Shenton.

Both Dr Carrocci and Rachel Joy Shenton gave speeches to thank the University for their Honorary Degrees as well as to inspire the next generation to achieve great things and make a difference in society; a message echoed in Newman University’s vision and values; to shape the whole person.

Many students took to social media to express how excited they were to attend their graduation and how they felt a great sense of achievement. Bethany Carter wrote on Twitter ‘I’m so proud of myself, I did it! I actually did it!’ with Iqra Arshad also writing ‘Officially a graduate! Couldn’t have imagined myself studying anywhere else these last 3 years. The English department were always so supportive!’ and finally Daniel Evans wrote ‘What an amazing day! Now officially graduated from Newman Uni with a First Class Honours Degree in Business Management.’

Upon graduating the Alumni Association is open to the students to allow them to be part of Newman for years to come. The Association allows graduates to be take of advantages of services such as careers advice and support to aid career development, discounts on campus services, invitations to events, as well as news and updates from the University.
