New Chair of University Council

Newman University’s Chair of Council, Jonathan Day will be stepping down on 31st December after seven years in post.

Under Jonathan’s leadership, Newman has undergone transformative change, where Jonathan has overseen significant projects, development and investment. Building on the foundations and values of the institution, he has enabled development and growth.

Andrea Bolshaw, Clerk to the University Council said, “it has been a privilege and honour to work with Jonathan. All members of Council have valued his broad commercial awareness, ability to lead, coupled with a great understanding of the HE sector. The Council and University Executive are extremely grateful for Jonathan’s contribution and service to the university.”

Jonathan has relocated to the USA where he is the Chief Executive Officer of Tapestry Networks. Jonathan has been an invaluable member of the Newman community and his wisdom and guidance have been deeply appreciated over the years by all who have worked with him.

The new Chair Elect is Professor Margaret House taking up the post from 1st January 2022. Margaret has recently joined the Council and was previously the Vice-Chancellor of Leeds Trinity University. Margaret has a wealth of experience of higher education and leadership within the sector. In 2018 Margaret was presented with an OBE for Services to Higher Education. We warmly welcome Margaret in her new role as Chair of Council as Newman enters its next exciting chapter. In accepting her new role, Margaret said, “I am delighted and feel very honoured and privileged to have been appointed Chair Elect of Council. I am fully committed to the mission and values of the University and look forward to working closely with the whole Newman community. I would like to acknowledge the significant contribution made by Jonathan Day, he will be greatly missed, and a hard act to follow.”
