New Youth Work International Partnership with the Commonwealth
Members of the Youth Work team at Newman University are currently developing a partnership with the Commonwealth Secretariat and specifically the Commonwealth Higher Education Institution Youth Work Consortium.
The Consortium is developing a framework for delivering youth work professional qualifications across the commonwealth.
Dr Mike Seal, Reader in Critical Pedagogy at Newman University commented “Following on from the recent book ‘Teaching Youth Work in Higher Education: Tensions, Connections, Continuities and Contradictions’ we are looking to develop a book that represents work in the global South and specifically Africa, South East Asia and the Caribbean.”
Dr Mike Seal delivered sessions on critical pedagogy and informal education and helped facilitate a consortium conference in Bangladesh recently, which explored the book and the development of the framework. The conference took place from 20th-22nd November, for the Bangladesh Open University and focussed on the success of the Commonwealth Diploma in Youth Work and how this can now be expanded to meet the demand for high level qualifications and develop pathways in youth work.
More details of the partnership will be shared shortly.
