The partnership agreement between Newman University and CIMSPA will see the two work together to help improve employability options for students.

Higher education partners of CIMSPA are certified as meeting employer-set professional standards, as facilitated by CIMSPA. This benchmark means partners will be able to access CIMSPA’s sector-related degree endorsement programme.

Helen Hiley, Higher Education Officer at CIMSPA, said: “Every month we grow the number of higher education partnerships across the country. Our partnership with Newman University shows their ongoing commitment to CIMSPA’s aims and objectives.”

CIMSPA works with over 300 partners across the sport and physical activity sector and are building a recognised and respected profession and delivering business success.

Stefan Lawrence, Senior Lecturer and Course Leader at Newman University, said: ”The staff in the sport and health department have been working with CIMSPA and its industry partners to help develop a number of standards that have been finalised to date. We now set our sights on achieving endorsements for our courses.

“At Newman University we recognise how important it is to be engaged with industry partners, in order to have social and cultural impact beyond academia, to help deliver a social justice agenda, and also to ensure our students are equipped with the competencies and skills needed to meet the requirements of potential employers.”

With this partnership, connecting Newman students with their sector’s chartered professional body will lead to an increase in engagement that creates many opportunities for the students.
