Remembering Professor Sir Robert Burgess
As Professor Sir Robert (Bob) Burgess family, friends and former colleagues gather today to celebrate his life and mark his funeral, we at Newman University send our sympathies, prayers and condolences.
It was during Prof Burgess time as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Leicester that we at Newman had strong links and connections with Bob. He oversaw our partnership in a time when Newman degrees were validated by the University of Leicester and was always a significant and prominent presence at our degree congregations, never missing one during this time. The support for research and developing researchers here at Newman was another significant theme of our links with the University of Leicester under his leadership.
We are thankful for his support as we journeyed to achieving our own taught degree awarding powers and for the particular contribution Sir Bob made to this process.
May he rest in peace.
Margaret Holland, University Chaplain.
