Student satisfaction scores highly at Newman University
The 2021 Guardian league tables for universities were released over the weekend and Newman University, much like in the recent Complete University Guide and NSS, scored highly for student satisfaction.
Newman moved up the overall ranking table and excelled when looking at satisfaction, ranked number one in the West Midlands. Newman was also 1st in the West Midlands County for assessment satisfaction, course satisfaction and teaching satisfaction as well top in the Cathedral’s Group universities for course satisfaction and second in the group for teaching satisfaction.
A number of subject areas performed well, including Criminology which ranked in the top three (2nd) of universities for assessment satisfaction, meaning the subject area was first in the Cathedrals Group and in the West Midlands for a second year running; the area also secured top spots in the Cathedrals Group and West Midlands for course satisfaction and teaching satisfaction.
History was ranked in the top 10 overall, meaning the subject area was 1st in the Cathedrals Group for the third consecutive year and 1st in the West Midlands for the 2nd year in a row.
Other highlights included Drama which was ranked in the top five (3rd) for teaching satisfaction; Psychology climbed the table to secure a place in the top 10 (10th) for course satisfaction; Education subjects also climbed the tables to be within the top 30 for course satisfaction and top 20 for student:staff ratio.
The results echo those released for the Complete Univeristy Guide in June of this year, as well as the latest National Student Survey Results in August where Newman University retained its top spot of the Birmingham universities for overall satisfaction.
