Andy joined Birmingham Newman University in August 2024 as a Senior Lecturer in Professional Policing. He brings extensive experience from a distinguished 21-year career with West Midlands Police (WMP), where he held the rank of Police Sergeant, preceded by 14 years of service in the British Army.
For 18 years, Andy served as a team leader on WMP’s Firearms Operations Unit’s Tactical Team, dealing with dangerous offenders potentially in possession of firearms or those deemed high-risk in criminality or counter-terrorism environments. His commitment to academic quality management and student engagement, combined with his practical experience and innovative use of technology-enhanced learning, has earned him respect in both educational and policing sectors. To support his academic role, Andy has completed an additional MA in Education and has also achieved Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
