Jude Mbonu

Biography

Jude Mbonu is a dedicated Lecturer in Law, distinguished by a rich blend of academic excellence and hands-on legal experience. His teaching is informed by a dynamic career that bridges both the courtroom and the classroom. Before assuming his current role, Jude held academic positions as an Associate Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London and as a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Kent, where he earned a reputation as a thoughtful and supportive educator.

A qualified Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria since 2014, Jude has practiced law with some of Nigeria’s most respected legal institutions. His professional journey includes time at Banwo & Ighodalo, a top-tier commercial law firm, where he honed his skills in corporate legal practice. He has also appeared before various courts in Nigeria, gaining valuable advocacy experience and a deep understanding of the judicial process.

Jude’s academic credentials are equally impressive. He holds an LLB and an LLM in International Commercial and Business Law from Bangor University, Wales. He recently completed a PhD in Intellectual Property Law at Queen Mary University of London, with a research focus on the evolving challenges of copyright law in digital environments. His academic journey began with a B.Phil and an MA in Philosophy from Urban University in Rome and Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Nigeria, respectively—an interdisciplinary foundation that enriches his legal scholarship and pedagogy. He has completed his Certificate in Learning and Teaching (CILT) from Queen Mary University of London, leading to recognition as an Advance HE Associate Fellow. He is pursuing his Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education for Advanced HE Fellow recognition.

A committed member of the Nigerian Bar Association, Jude is passionate about integrating legal theory with real-world application. His diverse background enables him to deliver a practice-oriented approach to legal education, equipping students with the analytical tools and practical insights needed to thrive in today’s legal landscape.
