Before joining Newman University, Professor Leishman was an Associate Dean and Professor of Criminology at the University of Gloucestershire. He was previously Professor and Programme Leader of Criminology at Southampton Solent University, having begun his academic career at the University of Portsmouth, where he was a founder member of (what is now) the Institute of Criminal Justice Studies.

A former recipient of a Cambridge Institute of Criminology Cropwood Fellowship, Professor Leishman’s publications include the books Core Issues in Policing (2000) and Policing and the Media: facts fictions and factions (2003).
