Emma Folwell

The foundation year team welcomes you to Newman University! We’re looking forward to meeting you and working with you in your first year at university. You’ll be assigned a personal tutor once you’ve enrolled and you can expect to hear from them with more information about your welcome to Newman. You will be introduced to the core teaching team in the first few weeks of study. However, you can expect to work with a number of tutors and experts throughout your degree.

Emma Folwell is Head of Introductory Programmes at Newman. Emma is currently working on a project exploring transnational ideology in the mid-twentieth century. She is the recipient of a Fulbright Award 2018/9, supporting research and teaching at Elon University, North Carolina in the spring of 2019.

You can contact Emma with any questions you may have about studying Foundation Year: e.folwell@newman.ac.uk.

From September to December, for your first semester at university, you’ll be working on two modules. One will involve exploring big concepts including education and identity. You’ll be working with your personal tutor and tutor group to develop your confidence and the academic skills you need to succeed in higher education. In the other module, you’ll be working with lecturers from your degree subject to develop your understanding of the foundations of your chosen degree.

For on campus activities students are split into groups at enrolment. Each group will have its own timetable.  In addition to your subject times below you will also be allocated a seminar group which will involve 2×2 hour seminars, plus a 1 hour seminar each week. There are also three hours of online activities to complete each week in your own time, and you’ll see these on your timetable. Normally classes will be distributed across 3-4 days per week between 9:00am-17:00pm.

Full details of your individual academic timetable will be available on mynewman after you have completed online enrolment and set up your student login.
