The MSC is staffed by UKCP-registered psychotherapists as well as qualified practitioners with other accreditations. The team offers a wealth of clinical experience and a diversity of training in different therapeutic modalities. At present Faisal Mahmood is leading on training in the foundational model of Gestalt, Karen Lee is highly experienced in psychodynamic therapy which is introduced in the second year whilst James Sedgwick introduces CBT in the third year. Initial training in clinical practice is delivered by Cassie Rowland. All other teaching is delivered by members of the core staff team including Sam Gallo who supports a number of clinical case discussion groups.

You can contact Programme Lead, James Sedgwick (pictured above), with any questions you may have about studying this course:  james.sedgwick@staff.newman.ac.uk.

The first year of the programme provides an in depth introduction to Gestalt Therapy alongside teaching on ethics and professional practice. Students will also be introduced to the personal and professional development group and given time to develop their practical competencies in small group work with other students.

Mondays 10am-5:15pm

Full details of your individual academic timetable will be available on mynewman after you have completed online enrolment and set up your student login.

Students looking to get started on their reading for the programme might usefully consult Phil Joyce and Charlotte Sills, Skills in Gestalt Counselling and Psychotherapy.

After this the key text for the model remains Fritz Perls, Ralph Hefferline and Paul Goodman, Gestalt Therapy: Excitement and Growth in the Human Personality.

For those looking to get an approximate sense of what the Newman approach to integration looks like, we recommend Paul L. Wachtel, Relational Theory and the Practice of Psychotherapy.
