How we welcome you to Newman
There will be lots of activities happening across our campus to help you get started as a Newman student. This page contains useful information about what you can expect in your first few weeks and who is available to help you as you settle in.
Use this page to learn about how we support you in the early stages of your time with us.
Welcome Mentors
Knowing the challenges of starting University level study, Welcome Mentors help new students build connections and friendships across the first year. They are experienced students who have ‘been there, done that’ supporting others in their higher education journey.
Welcome mentors can support you in navigating campus and finding rooms for your first session. They can answer your questions and signpost you to sources of help. They can spend time with you 1:1 to help you make sense of your timetable or navigate our online environments. You can even ask to meet with a mentor regularly through the first few weeks of your course, as you develop your confidence and independence on campus and in your learning.
We are proud of our Welcome Mentor team, as a group of students who represent the diversity of our institution, and who volunteer for the role so as to ‘pay forward’ the help they received when starting as a student.
You will meet the Welcome Mentors as you arrive for your first session in Welcome Week, and you can find details of your first meeting on your course page in this section.
