Early Years


It is widely recognised in research that the care and development received by young children plays an important role in their life opportunities. Fundamental skills such as speaking and listening, creativity and interpersonal skills are developed in this important phase of our lives.

Newman University's courses in Early Years at foundation degree and undergraduate level explore the key policies and practices relating to the care and development of children between the ages of 0-8. You will explore how perceptions of childhood have changed over time and view national and international perspectives on the care and development of young children.

All courses combine the study of policies and best practice, and the implications of these policies and practices in the real world. Often full and part-time students from a variety of professional backgrounds study alongside each other, resulting in stimulating discussions of how policies and strategies impact on various settings, and enable students to gain an understanding of the constantly changing field of Early Childhood Education and Care.
