Sports Centre

Newman University Sports Centre is situated within the Edwards Building on the University campus. The Sports Centre facilities are accessible to students, staff of the University and all local community members.

The facilities include a Cardio Suite and a Sports Performance Suite, which enable our members to achieve a broad range of fitness goals. Our friendly staff are on hand to provide you with cutting edge information regarding nutrition and training recommendations, as well as setting a variety of gym challenges to keep you motivated through the year. The Sports Centre staff would like to encourage all interested staff, students and community members to drop in and see the facilities we have to offer.

The Fitness Suite and Sports Performance Suite features market-leading equipment from Technogym including:

  • Purpose built air conditioning
  • 16 Cardiovascular equipment stations (including 5 treadmills, 2 exercise bikes, 3 spin bikes, 2 cross-trainers, 2 rowers, and 2 steppers)
  • Matted area for core exercises and stretching
  • 11 Resistance machine stations (Leg Extension, Leg Press, Chest Press, Low Row, Vertical Traction, Shoulder Press, Dual Adjustable Pulley System, Ercolina, Plate Loaded Row, Plate Loaded Incline Leg Press)
  • 1 multi-functional half rack and 2 Olympic lifting platforms
  • Dumbbells running up to 32kg
  • Plate loaded equipment and 800kg of plates

The Sports Centre will continue to offer membership prices at a competitive rate, to enable students, staff, alumni and local members of the community to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle. There is no joining fee required to activate a membership.

In September 2017 Newman Sports Centre unveiled a new state-of-the-art on-campus 3G Artificial Grass Pitch, which was officially opened by ex-Aston Villa and former England international footballer Darius Vassell. Supported by the Football Foundation, Newman University’s new facility will help to address the shortage and demand of football in Birmingham by contributing to community programmes and by facilitating governing body local strategic plans. The pitch is available to hire in thirds; prices are dependent on FA Charter status. To enquire about the availability of the 3G pitch, please contact the Sports Centre on 01214832286.
