Faculty of Education Summer Inclusion Conference - Monday 24th June 2024
Building Inclusive Communities for the 21st Century Learner
I am delighted to invite you to our inaugural Faculty of Education Summer Conference.
The speakers and workshops have been carefully selected to support the theme of ‘Building Inclusive Communities for the 21st Century Learner’, and to develop delegates’ understanding of the impact of adverse childhood experiences.
Having worked in education for nearly 30 years across Secondary, Primary and Special Educational sectors before moving into Higher Education, I believe that to meet the needs of the 21st century learner, we must first understand their background, contexts and situations. Inclusive practice lies at the heart of all we do. My leadership role at a Pupil Referral Unit shaped my interest in special educational needs and I then undertook a series of leadership roles, including SENCO, to support school improvement. I began lecturing on the National Award for Special Educational Needs which was the start of my journey into Higher Education. I have completed a variety of roles in Higher Education but I am most passionate about our work in partnership and recruitment. My own research and area of interest is in Attachment, Trauma and Mental Health and I am keen to explore how we can work in partnership to ensure we best meet the needs of all learners, encourage more people into the teaching profession and equip them with the skills to enjoy, and succeed in, the role.
