The Institute for Children, Youth and Mission – CYM – has been offering specialist training in the areas of youth, children, community ministry and chaplaincy training since 1998.  The focus of our placement-based training is two-fold: to equip people to work in churches and Christian voluntary sector organisations, and also to prepare people to work in the wider statutory and voluntary sector in related fields.

We have high levels of student satisfaction and a diverse student body with significant numbers of mature students who are changing vocation or engaging with study for the first time for many years. Our community oriented, caring, supportive environment is one in which a wide variety of students thrive.

We deliver our courses using a mixed mode of teaching. CYM students benefit from practical hands-on experience through practice based learning, complimented by theory and theological study. Our face-to-face Learning Centre is based in Nottingham. Being in the heart of the Midlands, it makes it an accessible, central point for a wide range of students who live at their placement location and travel for the study blocks.

“The course just ticked all of my boxes really … I wanted to get trained to work with the people I was already working with – trained up in social science as well as in theology.” – RACHEL, 3rd YEAR STUDENT
