Hong Kong
Undergraduate entry
- Four core modules at Level 3 or above with grades 3 or above plus two elective modules at Level 3 or above with grades 3 or above (we will need to determine which exact subjects need which electives and what grades on an individual basis) in HKDSE.
- Core and Elective subjects, including Liberal Studies, will be accepted at Levels 3 and above. English can be counted within the points, with a minimum requirement of Level 4.

Uganda

Zambia

- A recognised International Foundation course from a UK institution – 60%-65%; DTEVT Advanced Certificate; DTEVT Diploma; Post-Secondary Vocational Certificate/Diploma course (2/3 years)
Appropriate A levels
Postgraduate entry
- Masters degree from the University of Zambia; Cavendish University or Zambia Adventist University; – Credit level grades, or;
- MBA from Copperbelt University- GPA 2.5 or above.
English requirements
All international students who require a Student visa must provide evidence of their English language ability through a Secure English Language Test (SELT) taken within the last two years unless they are exempt under UKVI rules.
The UKVI-approved SELT providers are:
- IELTS SELT Consortium: IELTS for UKVI or IELTS Life Skills
- LanguageCert: LanguageCert International ESOL SELT or LanguageCert Academic SELT
- Pearson: PTE Academic UKVI or PTE Home
- PSI Services: Skills for English UKVI
- Trinity College London: Integrated Skills in English (ISE) or Graded Examinations in Spoken English (GESE)
Please ensure your test is specifically approved for UKVI purposes.
Minimum English Levels
- Foundation courses
Equivalent to IELTS for UKVI 5.5 overall, with a minimum of 5.5 in each component. - Undergraduate courses
Equivalent to IELTS for UKVI 6.0 overall, with no component below 5.5. - Postgraduate courses
Equivalent to IELTS for UKVI 6.5 overall, with no component below 6.0.
Some courses may require a higher level of English to meet professional, statutory, or regulatory body requirements. Any higher requirement will be stated in your offer letter.

How to apply
Apply for a course
Before applying for a Student visa, you must first apply for your chosen course by selecting the Apply button on the relevant course page and submitting your online application along with the required supporting documents.
Please note that we can only consider applications from applicants who will be 18 years of age or over at the time of enrolment.
Supporting documents
You will be required to provide the following:
- A completed online application submitted via the Apply button on the relevant course page
- A personal statement explaining:
- why you wish to study the course, and
- why you have chosen Birmingham Newman University
(Please refer to individual course pages for any additional course-specific requirements.)
- Official certificates and academic transcripts:
- Undergraduate applicants: secondary school/college qualifications and results
- Postgraduate applicants: degree certificate and full transcript
(Documents must be officially certified and accompanied by a certified English translation where applicable.)
- Evidence of your Secure English Language Test (SELT), where required
- Academic references:
- One reference for undergraduate applicants
- Two references for postgraduate applicants
(References must be provided on official headed paper.)
Credibility interview
All applicants will be required to complete a pre-CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) credibility interview as part of the admissions and UKVI compliance process. If your application progresses, we will contact you directly to arrange a video interview.
Deposits and tuition fees
Once you have provided all required documentation and met the conditions of your offer, you will be asked to pay a tuition fee deposit as stated in your offer letter.
To complete enrolment, you must have paid at least 50% of your tuition fees.
If your fees are not paid in full, the remaining balance may be paid in two instalments, in line with the University’s instalment schedule for your intake.

Financial Requirements for your Student Visa
As part of your Student visa application, you must show that you have sufficient funds to cover your tuition fees and living costs.
Bank statements
If you are using personal funds:
- The required funds must be held in your account for at least 28 consecutive days
- The closing balance date must be no more than 31 days before the date of your visa application
- Funds can be held in your local currency (please ensure the GBP equivalent meets UKVI requirements – currency converter)
Living costs (maintenance)
You must show:
- £1,136 per month for courses in Birmingham (outside London)
- Up to a maximum of 9 months
- This is a total of £10,224 if your course is longer than 9 months
(These figures reflect current UKVI requirements for study outside London.)
Using your parent(s)’ funds
If you are relying on funds held by your parent(s), you must provide:
- Your parent(s)’ bank statement showing the required funds
- Your birth certificate (or official document) confirming your relationship
- A signed and dated letter from your parent(s) confirming they consent to the funds being used for your studies
Only parent(s) or legal guardian(s) accounts can be used. Funds held by other relatives or friends are not acceptable.
Official Financial Sponsorship
If you are sponsored by:
- Your home government
- The UK Government
- An international organisation or company
- A university
You must provide an Official Financial Sponsorship Letter confirming the amount of funding.
If your sponsorship does not cover the full tuition fees and living costs, you must show evidence of the remaining funds in line with UKVI requirements.

Applying for a VISA
In order to study and live in the UK you’ll need a visa. You will need to apply for this within three months of your course start date. It can be a long process, so please leave plenty of time.
To be eligible for a student visa via the Student Route, you must meet the following criteria before applying:
- Have been offered a place on a course at Birmingham Newman University
- Have provided all your certificates and your English Language SELT.
- Have passed the credibility interview
- Have a Confirmation of Acceptance for Study (CAS) from Birmingham Newman University.
- Have provided evidence (bank statements) to demonstrate you have enough money to support yourself and pay for your course (this will vary depending on your circumstances), held in your bank account for 28 consecutive days.
- Provide a Tuberculosis (TB) certificate) if required (check if you need a TB test for your visa application)
- Meet any other conditions as outlined in our offer letter.
Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS) letter
Once you have met both the academic and non-academic conditions of your offer you will be instructed to complete a CAS request form.
The University will then issue you with your CAS which contains a unique number that you’ll need to input on your visa application.
Working in the UK – important
Please note that you are not permitted to work in the UK and you will not be eligible to apply for the Graduate Route. This is because Birmingham Newman University is currently a new Student visa sponsor.

Information about your enrolment and induction will be sent to your email address. Please check your email regularly for updates.
Right to Study (RTS) check
Before you can enrol, the University must confirm your immigration permission and right to study in the UK. If you are unable to demonstrate the correct permission, you will not be permitted to complete enrolment.
You will be required to attend a face-to-face Right to Study check and bring the following original documents:
Student visa holders must provide:
- Current passport
- Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)
- UKVI visa decision or entry clearance email
- e-Visa share code (for online verification)
- Evidence of arrival in the UK (e.g. boarding pass, flight confirmation)
- Academic and English qualifications listed on your CAS
- ATAS certificate (if required)
e-Visa – How to share your status
If you need to prove your immigration status using an e-Visa, you must share your status through the UK Government’s online service.
- Go to the UK Government View and Prove your immigration status service.
- Log in using your passport or travel document details and date of birth.
- Select ‘Prove your status to someone’ and generate a share code for an organisation.
- Provide the share code to the University.
Share codes are valid for 30 days. The University will use this to verify your immigration permission and right to study.
