Birmingham Newman University is seeking a dedicated Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Criminology. This role is an opportunity to join our School of Business and Law, significantly contributing to our Criminology programmes. With a clear understanding of student learning and the relevant pedagogic approaches, you will be instrumental in teaching, research, and engaging with the community.

Role Overview:

Responsibilities include:

  • Designing and delivering curriculum for undergraduate and possible postgraduate Criminology courses. In particular, we would be interested in specialisms such as Forensic Criminology, Green Criminology, Gender related crime or other related specialisms.
  • Implementing innovative teaching methods to ensure effective learning outcomes.
  • Assessing student work and providing constructive feedback to support their academic growth.
  • Serving as an Academic Personal Tutor, guiding students through their academic journey and personal development.
  • Conducting and contributing to research projects within the Criminology field, enhancing the subject and School’s academic standing.
  • Participating in and contributing to outreach, marketing, and student recruitment efforts to promote the Criminology programme.
  • Developing opportunities for student employability and engagement with the broader community.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Essential: A Bachelor’s degree in Criminology; for Senior Lecturer positions, a Master’s degree in Criminology or a related field is required.
  • Preferred: A teaching qualification or a Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.
  • Demonstrated expertise in a Criminology specialisation, with a strong research record for Senior Lecturer candidates.
  • Experience in creating and delivering high-quality, engaging educational content.
  • Ability to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends, on occasion.
