Birmingham Newman University wins student nursing award

The Student Nursing Times Awards were celebrated at an awards summary in London

Birmingham Newman University’s School of Nursing and Allied Health in partnership with University Hospital’s Birmingham and the University of Birmingham have won the Student Nursing Times Awards in the category for Nursing Times Student Placement of the Year: Hospital category for our Dedicated Education Hubs – A New Approach to Practice Learning for Part 1 Students at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.

The Student Nursing Times Awards were celebrated at an awards summary on Friday 26 April which brought together the nursing and midwifery community to shine a light on the brightest talent making their way into the profession and those educators, practice supervisors and practice assessors who support students across a range of learning environments.

Ronnie Meechan, Head of School (Associate Dean) of Nursing and Allied Health at Birmingham Newman University said: “This is a fantastic achievement for colleagues on East 2 A and East 2 B wards at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. This award recognises partnership working at its very best, and It’s a reward for the hard work taken by all to see the Dedicated Education Hubs. It was wonderful to be part of this collaborative initiative between UHB, Birmingham Newman University, and the University of Birmingham. Winning the  hospital placement of the year at the Nursing Times Awards is an achievement that all involved should be proud of.”

The Student Nursing Times Awards highlight excellence in all specialties of nursing, the awards also provide the opportunity to congratulate the lecturers, practice supervisors, universities, trusts, and private organisations providing the best support for student nurses during their studies.

The School of Nursing and Allied Health at Birmingham Newman University was launched in April 2022, with the first cohort of students enrolled in September 2023.
