Dr Mike Seal has been awarded a Principal Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, its highest teaching award

03/09/2019 by Morgan Doherty

It is awarded to those who can demonstrate a sustained record of effective strategic leadership in academic practice and development and are highly experienced with wide-ranging strategic leadership responsibilities in connection with key aspects of teaching and supporting learning. It was awarded on the basis of his work on queer and critical pedagogy and contribution to community development and engagement at a national and international level.

Mike comments ‘It is amazing to receive this award. I would like to thank all the staff and students who worked alongside me in the different initiatives that made the award possible. I also see it as a vindication of the importance of works with widening participating students and engaging meaningfully with the community. All things that Newman stands for. A university should be for the community and work with the community, not on it or separate from it’
