School of Nursing shortlisted in Nursing Times Awards

Birmingham Newman University’s School of Nursing and Allied Health has been shortlisted for the The Student Nursing Times Awards  in the category for Nursing Times Student Placement of the Year: Hospital category for our Dedicated Education Hubs – A New Approach to Practice Learning for Part 1 Students at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.

Ronnie Meechan, Head of School (Associate Dean) of Nursing and Allied Health at Birmingham Newman University said: “It is fantastic to see the Dedicated Education Hubs recognised for their innovative approach to educating year one nursing students. It is wonderful to be involved at the conceptual stages of development of the DEHs and to see this concept now being delivered. This has been a truly collaborative initiative between UHB, Birmingham Newman University, and the University of Birmingham. Well done to all of the staff and students on East 2 A and East 2 B. It is a phenomenal achievement to be shortlisted for hospital placement of the year at the Nursing Times Awards.”

The Student Nursing Times Awards will be celebrated on Friday 26 April 2024, bringing together the nursing and midwifery community to shine a light on the brightest talent making their way into the profession .

Highlighting excellence in all specialities of student nursing, the awards also provide the opportunity to congratulate the lecturers, practice supervisors, universities, trusts and private organisations providing the best support for student nurses during their studies.

The School of Nursing and Allied Health was launched in April 2022, with the first cohort of students enrolled in September 2023.
