Annabel Masson

Biography

Dr Annabel Masson joined the University in October 2022 as Head of Subject for Allied Health. She is a dual qualified Physiotherapist and Ergonomist having received her BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy and MSc in Work Design and Ergonomics both from the University of Birmingham. She has worked extensively within healthcare and industry as an extended scope practitioner primarily within the fields of musculoskeletal rehabilitation and occupational health and her PhD awarded in 2017 from Loughborough University is within this field.

She started her academic journey in 2003 as a Lecturer in Physiotherapy and has since held Programme Lead and Senior Lecturer positions at two other Universities prior to joining Newman University, Birmingham.

Research Interests

Dr Annabel Masson’s research interests focus on the effects of work on health, the role of allied Health professionals in health promotion and precision rehabilitation for spinal pain including capturing the lived experience. She is research active within these areas. With experience in mixed methodological approaches leading to pragmatic outputs, she has supervised numerous undergraduate and postgraduate research students to successful completion and publication.

 

Teaching

Annabel is involved with teaching and learning activities associated with both Allied Health and Nursing modules. She has a passion for meaningful Interprofessional Education and for fostering collaboration with practice partners and other stakeholders to enhance student experience.

 

Administrative Responsibilities

Annabel is currently the Head of Allied Health that covers Physiotherapy pre-registration programmes and the development of the new Allied Health programmes within the University.  She is also a member of the Research Ethics Committee.
