Hannah Garbutt

Biography

Hannah joined Newman University in September 2023 as a senior lecturer in primary mathematics. Following the completion of her degree at Aston University in Accounting for Management, Hannah worked as an accountant for a professional services firm before pursuing her passion for teaching. After completing a PGCE in Primary Education with a mathematics specialism here at Newman University, Hannah gained a decade of experience teaching children across the primary age range, leading various subjects and was part of the Senior Leadership Team.

Hannah completed the Outstanding Primary Mathematics course delivered by Edge Hill University, qualifying as a Mathematics Specialist Teacher in 2016. She also gained the National Professional Qualification for Middle Leadership in 2019.

Her research interests include the implications of cognitive load theory in respect of mathematics and the benefits of deliberate practice.
