Nadia Talukder

Biography

Nadia is a senior lecturer in professional studies and partnerships. She teaches on the primary ITE undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including research modules and postgraduate Masters mdoules. Prior to joining Newman University, Nadia spent 19 years working in primary schools across Birmingham and London. Nadia completed a PGCE in Primary with French specialism at Newman and her time spent in primary education included responsibility for mentoring and coaching in the teaching of Foreign Languages. In addition to this role, Nadia has also lead workshops at the Primary Languages Show and has worked with regional support groups with a focus on how to build capacity and plan for sustainability in schools with the teaching and learning of foreign languages. Following on from this, she worked with the Hodge Hill Primary Consortium of Schools in Birmingham where she took on responsibility for introducing French into the Key Stage 1 curriculum across 6 schools. Having worked in leadership and management for several years, she also had responsibility as Lead Maths practitioner as well as mentoring ECTs and RQTs in schools across Birmingham. Nadia’s experience has now enabled her to provide specialist guidance and advice when working with students on teaching placement. She gained a Masters with Distinction at Newman University in 2022 and became an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2023. Nadia is currently undertaking a DPhil in Education at the University of Oxford.

Profile

Research Interests

Nadia is interested in the principles and theories relating to coaching and mentoring and has a keen interest in research relating to the impact of mentoring and the different outcomes of formal and informal mentoring.

Nadia’s research for the MA in Education was centred around the dissonance non-Catholic students in primary ITE may experience with the prospect of undertaking teacher training placements in faith settings. The research received an international award at the Research in Education Knowledge Exchange conference in Egypt in 2022. She also presented her research findings at the 5th European Academy of Religion conference in Italy and at the UCET Conference in 2022. Nadia will also be presenting her research in September 2023 at the Teaching and Learning Conference at Newman University and at the BERA conference in 2023.

Nadia is currently reading a DPhil in Education at the University of Oxford as she investigates the barriers to success of Global Majority female Muslim students in Primary Initial Teacher Education.

Teaching
Nadia teaches on the BA Education Undergraduate programme as well as the PGCE Masters modules. Her areas of interest are centred around research, professional enquiry as well as pedagogy across the primary age phase.
